Another day in Prozor. One of the many places in Bosnia where the clearest, purest mountain water naturally flows out of the rocks.

52 hours and ticking. I don't think at any point, prepared as one might be, that one ever is completey ready to move overseas. My room looks like the destruction path of a tornado, and I wallow about in confusion.

I've bought one of those atomic clocks that sets itself...it's been a disappointing last 42 minutes I've been trying to receive a signal. I guess there's a lot of atomic clock-setting activity going on right now, and the air waves are busy.

Coffee, coffee, coffee.

Where it all began

Above is a photo of The Latin Bridge, in downtown Sarajevo, upon which King Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914, the event that kicked off World War I.

For a great read on Balkan and Ottoman histories leading up to the first World War, check out The Bridge on the Drina, by Ivo Andric.

Above is a picture of the Turkish section of Sarajevo. This area is pretty much the heart of the old city. The building in the background, center is an old community well. Water is piped into it and into the city from the surrounding mountains. The water is so clear and pure it doesn't go through any purification process--it just goes straight into the pipes.
